Eccentric, a ribald joke, road of 1000 impossible dreams. Yet it endured in a land of sand and ruin and gold for nearly 80 years. Here a bit of Carl Fallberg’s superb art captures the spirit of the C&C. The fancy lettering comes from an 1894 pass. It exemplifies the improbable aspiration of “the Slim Princess”. Yet few roads were as romantic, few so well loved, and somehow it did endure.
